It is curious that Kea has escaped attention for so long. Only an hour’s ferry ride from Lavrio, just outside Athens, it has a prettily faded main town straddling two hills; the ancient city of Karthaia, poised above twin bays like a mirage; a ritzy yacht scene; and top wreck-diving sites (including the Britannic, sister to the Titanic). But it’s all change on the bay of Vroskopos: Greece’s first One&Only is expected to open here in 2021, with villas, restaurants and a beach club. For this summer, White Key Villa’s latest find is Villa Ligaria – breezily decorated with rattan hanging chairs and macramé parasols – on a secluded sandy stretch in the east of the island.
