I wrote this recipe with a few things in mind: First, I want to eat something that I will thoroughly enjoy, but I also want it to deeply nourish my body.

You can still focus on using the most nutrient-dense ingredients available to you and have a truly satiating, delicious meal. This recipe is proof that healthy and delicious aren’t mutually exclusive—it’s fully possible to have a smoothie that’s more like a milkshake, that tastes decadent and dessert-like yet is still packed with major health benefits.

It has just the right amount of sweetness from the banana, and you’ll sneak in some veggies by adding frozen cauliflower (don’t be alarmed; you can’t taste it in the smoothie, but it creates an extra-creamy texture, and it’s a great way to get in an extra serving of vegetables). If you don’t have any cauliflower on hand, it’s OK to omit it.

The combination of the peanut butter and maca together adds a malty, butterscotch flavor. When I make this smoothie after a hard workout, I always add unflavored collagen peptides for additional protein.

The perfect smoothie can satisfy your sweet tooth without a lot of calories — but with bunch of nutrients. Looking for cool ideas to throw in your blender? There are plenty of options for you to try.

Avocados
They’ll give your smoothie weight, thickness, and a silky texture. Yes, they’re full of fat, but it’s the “good” fat. The kind that’s linked to good heart health and good cholesterol levels. They’ll also help you feel full longer.

Beets
You can’t — ahem — beat them, really. They have lots of fiber and will add sweetness and a beautiful red color to your smoothies. They’re also good for your heart and your brain and are loaded with antioxidants. If red’s not your color, you can use yellow beets instead.

Peanut Butter
In a smoothie? Yeah, lots of people do it. It not only adds flavor, it also changes the texture — especially if you use the “crunchy” kind. It has some fiber, and it’s a great source of protein and potassium.

Coconut
It’s full of nutrients, like potassium and manganese, and will add body and texture to your smoothie. Any kind will do, but check out young Thai coconuts — they’re the ones used to make the “coconut water” sold as a natural, lower-sugar sports drink.

Kale
This king of the green leafy veggies is one of the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat, with only 33 calories per 2.5-ounce serving. And along with fruit or lemon juice, it’s surprisingly good in a smoothie.

Flaxseed
It’s high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, and can help keep your cholesterol levels in a healthy range. Ground flaxseed makes for a smoother smoothie than whole seeds, and your body can absorb it more easily. But go easy: It’s commonly used to help with constipation, so you can imagine what happens when you eat too much of it.

Chia Seeds
They have lots of antioxidants and fatty acids that are linked to healthy cholesterol levels and good heart health, but you may not be able to get them from these seeds as well as you can from other foods. Either way, they’ll add more texture and a nutty flavor to your smoothie — but don’t use more than a tablespoon or so, or you’ll end up with a glass of jelly instead.

Honey
It makes everything a little sweeter. Just don’t overdo it — it’s still mostly sugar. The exact ingredients depend on where the honey’s made, but most have small amounts of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that are good for your digestion.

Agave Syrup
Be careful with this one — it’s really just a kind of sugar. It may sound natural, but it’s highly processed, like high-fructose corn syrup. It’s sweeter than regular sugar, so you may use less.

How to make a smoothie cake

You know smoothies.Everybody knows, makes or drinks the so called workout drink, the healthy breakfast or the 21st century way to drink veggies and fruit…Yet,sometimes,we make more than we can drink,or even worse,we forget to drink it and it sits quietly waiting in the fridge door…
What happens then??Should we throw it away??and waste all the healthy and sometimes difficult to find ingredients??
Of course not!!Here comes a very fast and easy way to make the old fashioned smoothie into a delicious fresh, cool and why not healthy and nutritional desert,a smoothie cake:

Ingredients:

2 jars or three cups of our favorite smoothie
2 cup of chocolate (if the smoothie contains fruits and not vegetables) Vanilla extract
1 cup of stevia
1 cup of oats
1 cup of plain flour
Baking powder
1 egg
1/2 cup of coconut butter or any other kind of butter!!
Raisins or any other nut

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl,no mixer needed Put it in a greasy pan and bake it for 20 minutes in 170C When is cool, makes holes in it with a spoon and pour the melted chocolate!!
Alternatively if your smoothie is veggie instead of sugar and vanilla add cream cheese and salt and you will have a cheesy salty bread!!
Not bad for a forgotten smoothie
Enjoy

This creamy vitamin C packed Orange Mango Protein Smoothie is delicious and a great immune boosting drink. Adding vanilla whey protein also makes it a great recovery drink for after your workout.

January can be trying on our immune systems.

The up and down of the thermostat are a stress on our bodies and limits our time outside and access to fresh clean air. Plus with the cold weather we end up being inside more ofter putting us in contact with more and more people.

Think of all the extra people at the gym due to the New Years Resolutions. I haven’t attended a spin class this New Year that wasn’t full. Putting people together in close contact over and over is bound to spread lots of germs, and increase our chances of getting the common cold or flu.

Beyond being diligent washing of those hands, we need to make sure that we are giving our bodies the tools it needs to stay healthy.

Vitamin C is a great protector against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, and even skin wrinkling. Our bodies do not produce Vitamin C so we must receive it through our diet. The higher levels of vitamin C in our blood may be the ideal nutrition marker for overall health. Vitamin C helps maintain tissue and speed wound healing, an overlooked strength is its impact on boosting immune function.

Making sure you are healthy, strong and your body has the nutrition that it needs will help you stick to those New Years Resolutions. Losing weight, maintaining an exercise routine and enjoying your day to day activities start with your diet.

I am really excited to share with you guys about Walmarts Wellness Day. This is great FREE service for all of us, but specifically for anyone who is starting off the New Year with a Healthy Resolution. If you are starting a new workout regimen or food plan you want to take advantage of this awesome free service. Can you tell I think this is AWESOME?

Walmart and Sam’s Club want to help me, you and everyone reach their wellness goals. How are they doing this?

By offering free health screenings at more than 5,200 locations on January 14th. These screenings are great for giving you an overall picture of your health. Knowing your blood glucose, blood pressure, body fat and body mass index is a great way to keep track of your overall success at the gym.
