King George Hotel debuts a striking 21-meter glass installation by Lasvit, transforming its atrium with a blend of artistic beauty and luxury inspired by the olive tree

In the heart of Athens, the King George Hotel has long been synonymous with elegance and world-class hospitality. Known for its dedication to art and culture, the hotel recently unveiled an extraordinary glass art installation that promises to become a landmark at Syntagma Square. This stunning artwork not only enhances the hotel’s sophisticated aesthetic but also sparks a dialogue about the symbiotic relationship between art, luxury, and hospitality in Athens.

A Mesmerizing 21-Meter Glass Installation by Lasvit

At the core of this cultural offering is a custom-made, 21-meter-long glass installation that captures the senses, located within the hotel’s central atrium. Inspired by the timeless beauty of the olive tree, a symbol of Greece, the artwork was designed to breathe life into the previously uninviting interior courtyard, transforming it into a visual spectacle.

Visitors to King George Hotel are treated to an unparalleled sensory experience as they gaze upon this remarkable glass sculpture, marking a pivotal moment in the hotel’s journey. It reflects the hotel’s ongoing commitment to creating an environment where art and luxury coexist in perfect harmony.

Artistry and Legacy in Every Detail

Situated next to the iconic Hotel Grande Bretagne, the King George Hotel is already adorned with a marble floor featuring olive leaf motifs and an impressive collection of high-value artworks. The new glass installation further enriches the hotel’s artistic narrative.

The realization of this dazzling artwork was entrusted to Lasvit, a global leader in the design and construction of contemporary glass installations. Known for creating more than 3,000 custom pieces worldwide for luxury hotels, cultural institutions, and public spaces, Lasvit has pushed the boundaries of glass artistry. This breathtaking Bohemian glass sculpture can be admired from the award-winning Tudor Hall Restaurant, as well as from several rooms within the hotel.

Art historian and independent visual consultant Maria Migadi oversaw the installation and noted, “Laskaridis family’s passion for art is evident in all of their hotels—such as Athens Capital, which features George Lappas’ ‘Mappemonde.’ This latest jewel at King George, created by Lasvit, reflects their dedication to enhancing the cultural experience of their guests.”

The hotel’s impressive collection also includes works by celebrated artists such as Yannis Moralis, Paul McCarthy, and Albert Ohelen, as well as a series by renowned visual artist Sofia Petropoulou. The presence of these museum-quality pieces further cements King George Hotel’s reputation as a cultural beacon in the city.

Lasvit: Crafting the Future of Glass Art

Lasvit, famed for its groundbreaking approach to glass art, describes its vision: “Rather than adhering to conventional techniques, we view our glassmakers as true artists, and glass as the ideal medium for creative expression. We deeply value traditional glassmaking methods while embracing cutting-edge technology to push the limits of what glass can achieve.”

This ethos is reflected in the creation of the stunning King George installation, which combines centuries-old glassmaking traditions with innovative techniques. Drawing inspiration from the historic Chribska 1414, Europe’s oldest glassworks, and the master craftsmen of Ajeto, Lasvit continues to elevate glass art to new heights.

The King George Hotel’s dazzling new addition is more than just a work of art—it is a symbol of the hotel’s ongoing dedication to intertwining culture, luxury, and the timeless beauty of craftsmanship for a truly exceptional guest experience.
