Bombshell blowouts and slicked-back up-dos are par for the course in Jennifer Lopez’s world. But a sculptural chapeau and feline flick? Those are Lagerfeld-inspired touches. To honour the Met Gala 2023’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” Lopez complemented cat eyes and a polished tie-back with a veiled fastener, the resulting look a wash of Old World glamour.
Though her velvet and sateen Ralph Lauren halter made a statement all of its own, Lopez stayed true to her aesthetic by taking things up a notch. Worn astride a slicked-back midi bun, Lopez’s black topper featured a spray of onyx mesh, slightly frayed at the ends, the fabric styled to create the illusion of a cloud of smoke. It was a fitting frame for Lopez’s black cat eye and pink lips, a pairing that ensured the noir approach truly belonged to the Lagerfeld camp.
