The Venice Film Festival has been inundated with A-List stars walking the red carpet – or more accurately, arriving by boat – at the famous event.
One of the oldest and most prestigious film festivals in the world, the Venice Film Festival was founded in 1932 and takes place annually on the island of Lido in Venice, Italy.
It is a hot destination for film studios to promote new releases, from big-budget blockbusters to smaller independent films.
This year the event opened with a screening of comedy horror “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” directed by Tim Burton, a new installment of the famous 80s Burton film. The event runs until Sept. 7 and closes with an Italian film, “The American Backyard”, directed by Pupi Avati.
The festival marks the start of the awards season and regularly throws up big favourites for the Oscars. Eight of the past 12 best director awards at the Oscars went to films that debuted at Venice, while Emma Stone won the best actress Oscar this year for a film, “Poor Things”, that premiered at Venice.
The event also draws a multitude of stars, with Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Lady Gaga, Joaquin Phoenix, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Tilda Swinton and Adrien Brody all expected on the Lido this year.
