Douglas Dare ‘Dance Me to the End of Love’
Douglas Dare covered Dance Me to the End of Love — the third and final track of his Heavenly Bodies EP.
The song is a re-interpretation of a Leonard Cohen classic, which was originally commissioned by the Contemporary Art Museum of Montréal for the Cohen exhibition.
PJ Harvey & Bjork “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”
Back in 1994, PJ Harvey and Bjork performed a cover of The Rolling Stones‘s smash hit “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” at the Brit Awards. Based from the footage, the performance was amazing by how the acoustic guitar playing sizzled the air with a light rock sound while Harvey‘s and Bjork‘s vocals dazzled people’s minds with bittersweet harmony and melody.
Molly Lewis ‘Porqué Te Vas’
Some things are best left unsaid. But for Molly Lewis, they might be better whistled. In her wonderfully quirky world, lyrics are omitted and replaced with high-pitched chirps and trills.
Lewis’ cover of Jeanette’s 1974 track “Porqué Te Vas” keeps the same funkiness as the original, but she adapts it to her own loungey sound. It might be one of the more compelling tracks on On the Lips; driven by the slightly faster tempo.
Matt Maltese ‘Kiss Me’
Following four studio records dating back to 2018, the British-Canadian singer Matt Maltese presents a covers album in which he explores his formative musical influences and inspirations. Songs That Aren’t Mine was recorded almost entirely at his home in the company friends, and is led off by a cover of Sixpence None The Richer’s ‘Kiss Me’.
