St. Vincent – Pills
St. Vincent is essentially gifting her heart to the world with her intoxicating new album MASSEDUCTION, which comes out Friday. It’s a transparent account of the life of Annie Clark, taking a first-person point of view rather than playing out fabricated archetypes, as she did on previous works. “The record’s about love. At its best and at its core, it’s about love,” Clark said when she held a mock press conference to announce her forthcoming effort. “This record is from my heart to yours, and I hope it finds its way there.”
Our hearts have been steadily receiving bits and pieces of MASSEDUCTION since then, with geographic singles ‘New York’ and ‘Los Ageless’ emerging in recent weeks. Today we got another cut. “From guru to voodoo and voodoo to zen,” St. Vincent sings on “Pills.” Throughout the song, Clark chants medicated verses in the tune of a whimsical jingle about drug dependency, culminating with a bluesy, decelerated outro that evokes a comedown. Clark enlisted a star-studded team to back her up on the track: Cara Delevingne and Jenny Lewis on vocals, Kamasi Washington on saxophone and beat production from Sounwave.

LÉON – No Goodbyes
With her third EP, Surround Me, Swedish pop songwriting angel LÉON—to no one’s surprise—has given the world another beautiful body of work that continues her stellar reputation as one of pop’s most consistent and unique acts. If you have been following along with each song she’s put out, too, you will be happy to hear her newest track, “No Goodbyes”, is another flawless one.
The Smiths – I Know It’s Over (demo)
On October 20, the Smiths will reissue their beloved third album The Queen Is Dead, with a host of live versions and previously unheard outtakes. We’ve already heard a live medley of non-Queen tracks “Rubber Ring” and “What She Said,” and today the band has released a new-to-fans demo of “I Know It’s Over,” which is fairly similar to the version that ended up on the album. Hear it below.
